REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS (from 1980)
Prepared the detailed drawings and specifications, and served as the Owner's representative, for the shipyard renovation of 13 ferry vessels to current U.S.C.G. passenger vessel regulations for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (La. DOTD).
Preparation of contract design drawings, specifications and acted as the Owner's representative for the modular design and installation of fourteen luxury staterooms on the upper deck of the paddle wheel steamboat MISSISSIPPI QUEEN. Also, prepared detailed fabrication drawings and engineering calculations in support of the shipyard fabricator.
Developed preliminary design calculations and drawings for a 655 foot long bulk cargo barge to obtain competitive construction bids.
Condition and valuation surveys of the harbor excursion vessels PRESIDENT, NATCHEZ and COTTON BLOSSOM.
Prepared preliminary design calculations and drawings for a new dry dock for cost estimates. Preparation of detailed fabrication drawings for the construction of this dry dock.
Detailed design of a 148 foot long, heavy fuel burning, twin screw ocean going tugboat.
Detailed design of steel hatch covers for an ocean going cargo ship and supervision during fabrication.
Surveys of the damages to, and preparation of shipyard repair specifications for the tank barge BELCHER 102. Acted as the Owner's representative during the shipyard repair period, and later for the new owners during U.S.C.G. periodical inspections. Also, supervised the topside painting of this vessel.
Retained as the consulting naval architects and marine engineers for the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans for the following designs: 42 foot long Harbor Police Boat, 30 foot long River Sounding Boat and a self-propelled Anchor Handling Barge. Prepared the performance specifications, and acted as the Owner's Representative, for the construction of the 95 foot fireboat/utility vessel GEN. ROY S. KELLY. Performed various surveys, modifications and shipyard inspections on the fireboats DELUGE and LEWIS BOURGEOIS II and the dredge BLEAKLEY. Assisted in trouble shooting operational problems for the Port of New Orleans' floating equipment.
Prepared the engineering design calculations and detailed construction drawings for the fabrication of the 190 foot long LPG tank barge SIOUX.
Prepared detailed preliminary design drawings and calculations for the construction of an ocean going bulk cargo barge from four SEABEE barges.
Conducted condition and valuation surveys for the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans for the fireboats DELUGE and LEWIS BOURGEOIS II and the dredge BLEAKLEY.
Prepared extensive intact and damaged stability calculations for U.S.C.G. approval for six inland river chlorine barges for PPG Industries.
Prepared a deadweight survey and lightship determination for the passenger liner OCEAN SPIRIT.
Acted as the Owner's Representative for the complete renovation and repairs to the ocean going cargo ship RAINBOW HOPE.
Prepared detailed design drawings and calculations for the conversion of an inland, cylindrical tank LPG barge to ocean going service.
Prepared detailed design drawings and calculations for the construction of a 350 foot long, ocean going caustic soda barge.
Designed vapor recovery systems for twenty-seven petroleum tank barges.
Prepared contract design drawings, calculations and specifications for the major overhaul, re-powering and modifications to the La. DOTD ferry boats WESTSIDE and THOMAS JEFFERSON. Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard modifications to these vessels. Designed and acted as the Owner's Representative for the construction of an 80 foot long self-contained work barge for the La. DOTD.
Designed and prepared all the contract design drawings, calculations, specifications and bid documentation for the construction of the U.S.C.G. certificated (Subchapter H) 210 foot long by 72 foot wide, vehicle (72) and passenger ferry boat M/V PLAQUEMINES PRIDE. Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard construction of this vessel. The vessel went into service on the Mississippi River in December, 2004.
Permanently Moored Casino Barges (State of Mississippi):
CASINO MAGIC BAY ST. LOUIS (Opened September, 1992) - Prepared the design calculations and drawings to increase the width of the barge's deck from the original 54 feet to 74 feet; designed the column supports below the barge's deck for the casino structure; and prepared the flotation, intact and damage stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
GRAND CASINO GULFPORT (Opened April, 1993) - Prepared the design calculations and drawings for the transverse welded steel connections between the four (4) barge hulls and the pinned connections between the forward 2 barge hulls and the aft 2 barge hulls.
CASINO MAGIC BILOXI (Opened June, 1993) - Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard construction of the barge; prepared the design calculations and drawings to increase the width of the barge's deck from the original 90 feet to 110 feet; designed the column supports below the barge's deck for the casino structure; designed the modifications to the barge's structure for the installation of the elevators (3) and escalator (1); designed the reinforcement of the barge's hull for the ramp attachments and the connection to the mooring columns; and prepared the flotation, intact and damaged stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
GRAND CASINO BILOXI (Opened January, 1994) - Prepared the design calculations and drawings for the transverse and longitudinal welded steel connections between the six (6) barge hulls; designed the column supports below the barges' decks for the casino structure and the modifications to the barges' structures for the installation of elevators and escalators; and prepared the flotation, intact and damaged stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
RAINBOW CASINO VICKSBURG (Opened July, 1994) - Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard dry docking and repairs to the existing barges; prepared the design calculations and drawings for the transverse welded steel connections between the two barge hulls; designed the column supports below each barge's deck for the casino structure; prepared the flotation, intact and damaged stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
BOOMTOWN BILOXI (Opened July, 1994) - Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard construction of the barge; designed the column supports below the barge's deck for the casino structure and the modifications to the barge's structures for the installation of elevators; prepared the flotation, intact and damaged stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
CASTLE BEACH BILOXI (Project Terminated) - Served as the Owner's Representative during the shipyard dry docking for steel renewals, removal of existing deck and interior equipment, sandblasting and painting of the two (2) barges to be used. Prepared the design calculations and drawings for the transverse welded steel connections between the two barge hulls; designed the column supports below each barge's deck for the casino structure and the modifications to the barges' structures for the installation of elevators; prepared the flotation, intact and damaged stability analyses required for certification of the vessel by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
LADY LUCK NORTH TUNICA (Project Terminated) - Participated in the development of a totally enclosed casino floor for this Project. Inspected barge hulls. Prepared design calculations and drawings for the foundation of the casino floor which also served as connection for the two supporting barge hulls.
LADY LUCK VICKSBURG (Project Terminated) - Participated in the development of a totally enclosed casino floor for this Project. Inspected barge hulls. Developed plan for cutting and matching existing hulls to suit. Prepared design calculations and drawings for the foundation of the elevated casino floor which also served as connection for the three supporting barge hulls.
LADY LUCK NATCHEZ - Reviewed existing ramping arrangements to improve and simplify operation of the emergency exit ramps. Developed alternate handling methods.
GRAND CASINO BUCK LAKE - Served as a marine consultant for the development of structural details for various areas of the project, including casino column-hull connections, overhang supports and inter-hull barge ramp supports. Advised the owner regarding results of placement and/or additions of floors, equipment and facilities; especially with regards to hull draft, trim, stability, casino floor elevation and ramp systems.
Paddle Wheel Gaming Vessels (State of Louisiana):
M/V BOOMTOWN BELLE (Opened August, 1994) - Served as the Owner's Representative during construction of the vessel at Avondale Boat Division and technical consultant to the Owners.
M/V CRESCENT CITY QUEEN (Opened March, 1995) - Served as the Owner's Representative during construction of the vessel at the Bender Braithwaite, Louisiana Shipyard and technical consultant to the Owners.
M/V QUEEN OF THE RED (Opened July, 1994) - Served as the technical consultant to the Owners for all changes to the vessel. Conducted the Deadweight Survey for the approved lightship characteristics and maintained an accurate calculation of all weight-moment and fire load modifications. Represented the owners on all United States Coast Guard issues.
M/V KING OF THE RED (Opened January, 1998) - Presently serving as the technical consultant to the Owners for all weight-moment and fire load modifications to the vessel.
M/V BOOMTOWN BELLE II (Opened February, 1998) - Served as the technical consultant to the new Owners during the re-certification of the vessel to current United States Coast Guard regulations. Prepared the U.S.C.G. required fire load calculations, lightship weight estimate and emergency evacuation plans.
Gaming Vessels (State of Iowa):
M/V DUBUQUE DIAMOND JO (Opened May, 1994) - Served as the technical consultant to the Owners during conversion of the vessel from a dinner vessel to a gaming vessel by Bollinger Harvey Quick Repair Shipyard.
M/V LADY LUCK BETTENDORF (Opened May, 1995) - Served as the Owner's Representative during initial construction of the vessel at Bollinger Lockport, Louisiana Shipyard and technical consultant to the Owners.
Gaming Vessels (State of Indiana):
M/V MAJESTIC STAR (Opened June, 1996) - Served as the Owner's Representative during the conversion of the vessel (ex - M/V PRESIDENT CASINO V) from a dinner cruise vessel to a gaming vessel at Erie Marine Services, Inc. in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Gaming Vessels (Buenos Aires, Argentina):
M/V BARB KEHL – Served as the technical consultant to the owners (L. G. CIRSA, S.A.) as well as coordinated and supervised the dry docking and preparation of this vessel to enter the gaming business, after being dry transported from the United States to Argentina.
